Tutor Hiring Safety Tips

Understand that anyone capable of committing identity theft can also fabricate a profile. We recommend you take the follow precautions for your own safety.

Request Background Checks

You should conduct a background check before hiring a tutor. You may conduct a background check that includes a Social Security number trace, felonies, sex offenses, and some misdemeanors for only $34.99.

Email SpeedyTutor at help@speedytutor.com to order a background check on a tutor.

Examine Student Feedback

Look at the Student Feedback area of the tutor profile to see lesson ratings (1 to 5 stars) and student evaluations from prior customers. You may also ask the tutor for outside recommendations.

Meet in Public (For In-Person Tutoring)

If you opt to meet with a tutor in person, always tell someone in your family or a friend where you are going and when you will return. Always provide your own transportation to and from your class, and meet in a public place with a large number of people around, such as a library or coffee shop.

Have an Adult Present

If the student is under the age of eighteen, an adult should always be present during tutoring sessions.

Maintain the Confidentiality of Personal Information

In early e-mail exchanges or communications, never mention your last name, e-mail address, home address, phone number, workplace, or any other identifying information. Stop engaging with anyone who presses you for personal or financial information or tries to manipulate you into disclosing it in any way. Do not share personal contact information with SpeedyTutor until you are entirely comfortable and have payment information on file.
